HAMPSTEN HISTORY - Alpe d'Huez

"The dream of every climber is to win the Tour stage at Alpe d'Huez. It represents the unofficial climber's championship and almost always plays a pivotal role in the overall outcome of the race. In 2003, Lance Armstrong's margin of victory over Jan Ulrich was carved out on the storied slopes of the Alpe." Read more (Adobe PDF)...

Named for Andy’s brilliant 1992 Tour de France stage win, the Alpe d’Huez raises the bar for custom bicycle frames in any material. By using our own mix of super-strong, ultra-light oversize tubes we are able to construct a very light steel frame particularly suited to large and powerful riders.

The Alpe d’Huez stands out as a classic yet contemporary road frame with a level top tube and large diameter round tubing. Each frame features our flawless TIG welding and trademark rich paint and unique graphics.

We now offer this model in both our Race and Classic Road geometries, ideal for long rides, short-but-hard training sessions, or winning mountain stages of major French races. This frame perfectly captures the unmistakably smooth, sweet ride of steel – stiff yet supple – with the light weight, great looks, and superb handling characteristic of all Hampsten bikes.
